0 1990-1998 In the winter of 1990 at the age of 11 Charles started go-karting. He took victory in his second race. In his karting years he raced against Jenson Button, Anthony Davidson, Giorgio Pantano, Kimi Raikkonen and many more who made a name for themselfs in motorsport. He went trough all the classes from Juniors to Formula Super A, and won races in all catagories he took part in. Go-karting on the highest level with this strong generation has really helped shape Charles as a racing driver. First race win.

0 1999 This was Charles’s first year of car racing. In what was supposed to be a learning year he started out with a win in a small pre-season race. Then went on to become the first placed Van Diemen driver of the year. And ended the season with his first big single seater victory. Class.

0 2000 Charles was up against the likes of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa in this season. He beat Kimi to pole at Spa. And was fighting with Massa for the European Championship. It came to a crash at the last race between Massa and Charles. Massa having a few points advantage over Charles coming to this last race, took Charles out and by doing so secured the championship. Leaving Charles with second place in the European Championship. Charles also competed in some of the French races and was always fighting for victory’s here. Class.

0 2001 Charles missed the first round of the German season. But in all but one of the rounds he contested in Germany he finished on the podium. At the penultimate round he won the race but was later disqualified because of an irregularity on his engine, on a part which gave no extra speed and could not be reached by the team. An appeal was made but to no avail. Leaving Charles with a third place instead of a deserved championship. Class.

0 2002 In the very first race of this season Charles put his Dallara on the pole-position. This also being the first Formula 3 race for Charles made it quite a remarkable effort. He finished the race on the podium and all the signs were there that this was again going to be a good season for Charles. That is not how things turned out to be. After that first race Charles slowly became ill. Not knowing what was wrong with him he still contested some races. But as soon as came clear what was wrong he pulled out and had to recover. This took a long time and the season was over for him. Class.

0 2003 After not being able to show his talent for much of the last season Charles was very pleased to see that people had not forgotten about him. Mercedes (HWA) picked him up and offered him a Mercedes Junior role which off course Charles could not refuse. Pre-season testing went very well for Charles always being in the top 5. Come the season itself the temperatures rose and for some reason the team was unable to adopt the car to these circumstances for all season. There were some small highlights but overall this was not a good season for Charles. Class.

0 2004 After consulting Mercedes-Benz Charles went to the Manor Motorsport team. Again pre-season testing went excellent. Manor being in Europe for the first year was not very experienced on these different tyres from what they were used to. But in preseason testing it seemed that they were coping well with the situation. The only fear Charles had was that the same thing would happen as last year. And sadly this was the case. But this time at the end of the season there was improvement and a podium was a good way to close a season of hard work. Class.

0 2005 2 Weeks before the Atlantic championship got underway a last minute deal was made between Condor and Charles to do the first race at Long Beach. 6 Months later Charles had become the Champion of this prestigious series. On a very low budget which allowed for almost no testing this was an extraordinary performance. Following in the footsteps of Gilles Villeneuve, James Hunt, Alan Jones, Bobby Rahal, Michael Andretti, Jimmy Vasser, Jaques Villeneuve, A.J. Allmendinger and Dan Wheldon to name just a few.Charles’s career has taken a huge step in the right direction. In December he also made his debuut in the Champ Car World Series. Finishing 13th and putting in competitive laptimes. This was the perfect way to close a perfect season. Class.

0 2006 Charles's performance in Toyota Atlantic led to a drive for the MiJack Conquest team in the Champ Car World Series. Being at a small team the objective was to finish as much races in the top 10 as possible. Charles led his first laps in San Jose. A couple of times Charles was headed for a top 5 finish but his luck ran out. In Denver Charles was on course for a 3rd place finish. On his last pitstop his car caught fire so his hopes of a podium finish vanished. Other highlights included Road America where Charles after some daring passes on Dan Clarke and Sebastien Bourdais took the lead in the opening laps. In the end Charles can look back on a good season where the end result never came but the promise was always there. Class.
